The Temple of the Golden Buddha locally known as Wat Traimit features the largest Buddha idol in the world which is gold in appearance. The idol is five meters tall and weighs five and a half tons. In the olden days, craftsmen and artisans covered the gold idol with plaster and other relevant material for safety purpose. The Wat Traimit idol was discovered by accident when a piece of plaster fell of divulging the solid gold idol. The plaster pieces are still preserved in the temple and are actually on display.
